Generic semaglutide has arrived in Canada
April 28, 2026 — Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories approved — first generic semaglutide approved by Health Canada. Type 2 diabetes indication only (equivalent to generic Ozempic). Dr. Reddy’s resolved its October 2025 Notice of Non-Compliance in approximately six months.
May 1, 2026 — Apotex approved — Health Canada approved Apo-Semaglutide Injection, the second generic semaglutide product authorized in Canada. Type 2 diabetes indication only.
Through 2026 — Additional generic semaglutide submissions remain under Health Canada review. Decisions expected throughout the year; manufacturer production scale-up and pharmacy availability typically lag approval by weeks to months.
